Massage Warehouse campaign for massage, physical and complementary therapists to donate treatments to NHS workers after Covid-19.

Massage and complementary therapists across the UK have come together for #MassageTherapistsTogether, a campaign to donate free treatments after Covid-19 to say thank you to our NHS Heroes. From the 1st of September NHS Frontline workers will be able to register for a free treatment of their choice with a therapist in their local area.

Complementary therapists from Edinburgh to Exeter are signing up to donate free treatments. From Massage to Reflexology to Reiki, NHS workers can use an interactive map to find a therapist near them. Easy to use they only need to type in their postcode to find therapists nearby who are kindly donating treatments. Currently, over 1200 therapists have signed up to donate up to five free treatments each, donating more than 5000 free treatments, an incredible offer.

Professional organisations, such as the Federation of Holistic Therapies (FHT) and the General Council for Soft Tissue Therapies (GCMT) are both backing the campaign and helping organisers Massage Warehouse spread the word. As a result, the campaign has been well received by both the public and the complementary therapy industry as a whole.

One of the therapists to join the campaign, Heather Dawn Jones from Heather Dawn Elemental Health—Traditional Therapy and Training from West Yorkshire explained: “Having worked within health care for over 22 years, I felt helpless as a complementary therapist while my nursing and medical colleagues and friends faced the front line. As we reach the point where complementary therapies can reopen, this is my opportunity to support those people I cherish every day for their amazing work and commitment. Maybe now as complementary therapists and practitioners, we can take the front line in support of them.”

Paula Grover, of Tranquiltherapies.me, Chair Massage specialists, covering Farnborough North Hampshire and surrounding areas, said “All the time I was clapping for our NHS I was thinking I wanted to do more!!, So glad when The Massage Warehouse started up this #MASSAGETHERAPISTSTOGEATHER”

Operating in Leicester and the surrounding areas, Halima Keshav from Beautiful Sole Therapies commented: “They have literally put their lives on hold to care for everyone.” She added that she was donating treatments “just to show appreciation for the fact that they are on the frontlines, taking the brunt of it.”

Heather Venables, a BTEC Level 5 Soft Tissue Therapy student in Cornwall, said: “We can never repay the debt we owe to the NHS for all they have done for us prior to and during this pandemic—and what they will continue to do long after this is over. If we can help even one doctor or nurse to relax and de-stress by offering a free treatment, we will have accomplished our goal.”

As therapists themselves, the team at Massage Warehouse were touched by the heartfelt displays of public gratitude and felt inspired to use their skills to give something tangible back as a thank you to our NHS workers for their incredible sacrifices whilst we fight this pandemic.

Greg Coughlan, founder of Massage Warehouse, adds: “There are countless stories about life on the frontlines of Covid-19 and the NHS staff working tirelessly to turn the tide. We are all aware the pressure staff are under is immense and the physical and mental stress this will have on their long-term health. We wanted to do our bit to help. The #MassageTherapistsTogether campaign will provide a fantastic opportunity for NHS Frontline workers to experience a free treatment while being repaid (at least a little) for their hard work and dedication as our nation’s unsung heroes.”

During the 30 day campaign, NHS doctors and nurses can contact a therapist to book their free treatment. Therapists may not return to work straight away so the treatment does not have to take place in the 30 days, but in order to take advantage of this offer, NHS workers will need to contact their local therapist during the campaign period. Massage Warehouse is the matchmaker and facilitator of the campaign. Any complementary therapy treatments will be provided by trained therapists, who will be responsible for delivery of the treatment. NHS workers will need to show their NHS ID to claim the free treatment.
